As I've mentioned in a previous entry, I went to shoot at Changi Airport's new Terminal 3 on 24th December 2007, using the Nikon D80 that I had rented. Me and boboshooter met up at Popeyes Chicken (yet again!) for dinner before heading off to T3. Since I was relatively hungry that day, the meal tasted nicer than usual. Haha.
Upon entering the Terminal 3 area, my first impression was, "Okay... They're trying for an artsy-fartsy look here. Again. Isn't Esplanade pretentious enough?!" But... Putting the ostentatiousness aside, the place looked... Oh to hell with niceties, the place wasn't all that great. A few interesting spots here and there, but overall, it's just an overhyped airport terminal. I'm sure once the shops are open, they'd be more interesting though. But I'm not one who's interested in shopping, so I'd probably not give a damn. :D
When I saw these... Things at the ceilings (boboshooter called them light reflectors... -.-"), I said aloud, "Oh that's going to be such a fucking bitch to clean in half a year."
We went behind the counters to shoot too. 'Cause as boboshooter said, "When else can you shoot behind the counters?" Hurr. After which, I asked him to guess the weight of the DSLR system I was carrying, a Nikon D80 with battery grip + 2 batteries + 24 - 120 mm lens + SB-800 flash. He was spot on.
With the Speedlite SB-800 flash (including 5 AA batteries), the setup weighed 2.1 kg. o.O Without the flash, it weighed 1.7 kg. Oh wow. Nikon D80 owners' biceps must be massive after a year of usage!
And then, we took pictures of each other taking pictures of each other. :D
I like this picture above! :D I like the little frown I have, and my hair, and the reflection of myself! I don't like some parts though, but let's not dwell on the negative. :P
After a couple of shots (read: like... 10) of each other, boboshooter said, "Ok, let's stop, we look like a couple of cocks, doing this!" Wahahhaha.
We ventured further... I just anyhow snapped anything that I saw...
Changi Airport's Terminal 3 opens from 9th January 2008, 12 noon! See, reading zuldevil.com is very informative! :P
We went to the Arrival Hall, but weren't allowed in by security guards posted at the entrance. Which was a pity 'cause I wanted to shoot that man-made "waterfall" thing at the back of the hall (silver-gray thingie at the left background of the image above).
Near the end of the lower level, there was this... Support beams? I have no idea what they're called, but they're interesting looking.
Makes for an interesting picture, doesn't it? :) But I think I need to caption my pictures in a less obtrusive way. :(
I kinda like this picture. Not exactly sure why.
We walked back to the higher levels for a while, but there wasn't really anything else interesting to shoot. And since by this time, it was already around 11 pm, we made our way back. On the way to the Skytrain, I decided to take a couple of shots of the extreme fugliness of Terminal 3. Take a look and let me know if you agree or disagree with me.
The obviously fake plastic plants all over the damned terminal look totally out of place. And they don't even have nice trees! They have stunted trunks and short branches! Come on! For crying out loud, the damned Terminal 3 costs S$1.75 billion, and they can't find better looking decorations?
And... These things. 'Nuff said.
Then, at the Skytrain station area, I noticed something on the information board. Do you see it?
I asked incredulously to boboshooter, "Only Singapore Airlines operate out of Terminal 3?!" He answered, "Dunno leh..." I said, "If it's true... That's...." I paused for a right word to use.
"Egotistical."
"Yes," my friend agreed.
