Went to Malacca on last Sunday, 18th November 2007, to visit my late-grandmother's sister... Whom we call "Nenek Melaka" (Malacca-Grandma). The relatives had recently found out she has diabetes when there were worms crawling out of one of her toes. Just goes to show how well-cared for she is over there. Sigh...
Anyway, we got news that she is growing senile and one of her toes had been amputated (we were originally told "the leg" had been amputated - like wtf? Big difference, you know!) due to the worms... Several of us were going down to visit, and I went with about half of my family. We left home at about 6 am and had to wait for my uncle's family at the roadside after the Malaysian customs.
Waited for more than half an hour! But luckily (for me) the sunrise was beautiful. I took the picture below at 7:16 am.
Then my parents were kinda standing quite nicely before the backdrop of the sunrise, so I told them to stay still a while while I try to get a picture. They got bored of posing after my first couple of tries though! Bah! This photo was hard for me to get 'cause my flash couldn't provide enough fill lighting against the sunlight. Once again, Photoshop rescued one of my photos. The image looks alright when downsampled to this size, but I wonder how bad this is going to turn out when I send for print. :(
Regardless, I like the picture! :D
We went for breakfast at a roadside stall before the long drive to Malacca. The roti canai really hit the spot! Superb and crispy! Why can't Singapore's roti prata be the same? :(
We reached kampung Ujong Pasir at noon and there goes the long chats amongst the parents. Me? I went around shooting. Haha. Here's one of the pictures that I like.
I took 8 shots of several hibiscuses and I like most of them. I like this one the best. Yes, I'm guilty for favouritism. :(
Mom and Dad had a little chat with Malacca-Grandma... She didn't recognised Dad, but funnily enough, she recognised Mom. Probably because my mom used to make frequent trips with my late-grandma (back when she was healthy) to Malacca all the time. Oh well... It's sad that she's losing her memory, but what to do... Old age sucks.
After the visit, we went to kampung Morten, the kampung of my nurse-cousin, for a short stop. The hosts kept asking us to eat, when we already had a meal at the previous house... In the end, mom gave in and ate, along with one of my aunts. Erm, I whacked the chicken dish. :P
Here's a posed (yes, posed) picture of one of my cousins. The relatives over in Malacca kept saying they thought he was a girl 'cause of his super long hair. Haha. Gonna be chopped off soon 'cause he starts Primary 1 next year. Heh.
After the stop at kampung Morten, we went to another house at erm... I'm not sure what's the area's called. I played Monopoly with Hakim and his brother the whole time I was there. I lost. :(
Then it was time for the drive home. Where my dad reached a crazy 140 KM/H at one point. Frequently at 120 KM/H. -.-"
Stopped at one of the rest areas along the highway for food and toilet break. And another stop at one of the petrol stations, where I saw a very nice sunset. I took too long to decide to take a photo though, 'cause by the time I had the camera out, we were already moving. Bah! Don't care, just shoot.
Okay lah... Not a bad picture, looking at where I shot it from. Haha. Next time, must remember to just quickly take out the camera and shoot!
Anyway, as you can tell, I don't really have that much to say about the Malacca trip... My parents argued most of the time about the directions (typical -.-") and I had to become the mediator. Bah! Both my parents are super stubborn, and kept insisting they're right even when they aren't. It gets on my nerves all the time. Most of the time, I side with my mom 'cause my dad's usually in the wrong (according to me, anyway). Hurr. But during this trip, I even snapped at my mom 'cause she was being stubborn too even when she was wrong.
You know the saying "arguing like an old married couple"? My parents are the epitome of that saying! Haha! They argue all the time, but they quickly become okay again. Heh.
Okay that's it for this entry. Don't forget to check out my latest tutorial over at MrMalique.com and drop me some comments!
