Traffic Jams & Wireless Modems

My dad was planning to drive over to JB to top up petrol early this morning, at 2:30 am. Even after all the hoohah regarding the ban of foreign vehicles from buying petrol in JB, and the final un-ban (we all saw that coming, didn't we?), and 40% increment of their prices not long ago, it is still rather cheaper than topping up of petrol in Singapore. At least, it makes more sense if you live in Woodlands, like my family does.

So, as usual, before deciding to get ready, he'd ask me to help him check the traffic situation at the checkpoint. I don't know if you know about this service provided by LTA, but you can hop on over to one of their websites and check the road conditions of several key interest points in Singapore. Ever since I found out about it a year ago (I think) and told my dad about it, it'd been such a time saver.

If you've never heard of such thing, go to One.Motoring's site, and choose a location from the dropdown menu. At the new page (or that page for Woodlands that I linked you), click on the red/white circle to see an image from the camera in that location. The image opens up in a pop-up, so make sure your pop-up blocker is disabled. (Argh, get with the times, who uses pop-up windows anymore! Everybody hates them!)

Anyway, I checked the situation of the roads in front of Woodlands Checkpoint, and saw that there was a long traffic jam. So my dad decided he'd leave at 3 am instead. And when I checked at 3:30 am, there was still a long jam! Same for 4:15 am! Haha. Then I got bored, and while watching "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" season 8, I popped by once every few minutes to the site and grabbed the camera captures. Why? To make this gif below! Hahaha.

Constant flow of vehicles. Woot.

This is actually kinda like a filler post. I've got a lot of things I want to blog about... Like, the day out at Changi Beach in the beginning of the month to shoot my "secret" as blogged about here. And I got a walk journal post to create. And also I want to blog about my cousin's upcoming wedding (I shot her engagement ceremony previously!), where she requested I become her official photographer... Omg! And I accepted (after weeks of thinking!)! Double omg! (Plus, a guest assistant-photographer! Who can it be?! Clue : It's not Syira! Haha!) Got a lot to blog about, but I've been really stoning lately. Just not doing anything. Haha. It's really terrible. Too lazy to even blog. :P

On a whole different note, if you're a SingNet broadband subscriber, they have a recontract promotion on right now which I signed up for. 3 Mb/s plan for S$36.90, which gives you one month subscription free, along with a free wireless modem! Modem is allegedly (allegedly, 'cause I don't believe it's the actual price - hur) S$510 retail. Well, I believed previously that my modem was dying... Erm, it wasn't, but it'd be good to keep it as a spare one, anyway.

I read in forums that the wireless modem being given away is apparently a basic crappy 2wire one, which works okay. But their website lists only 2 wireless modems, Alcatel ST 570 All-In-One Wireless Modem and 2Wire Home Portal 1800HW Wireless Modem, that they provide... Although that's listed under the "Home Wireless Surf solution", which might not be what I'm getting. Maybe one of these crap listed under Router. I'm not expecting much, but if it does what I think it should do (it's a modem + wireless router combo, apparently - why do they make it so freaking hard for users to find out the model of the modem they're getting -.-"), then I'm not complaining. I just hope it's not as crappy as Syira's cheapo D-Link DIR-300 wireless router. :P

I don't actually need a wireless modem... I have my current modem connected via USB to my desktop, and my laptop sharing the connection via ethernet. But if I can support a small LAN game, that'd be great! Plus, my knowledge on wireless internet connection is very limited... So I want to take this opportunity to learn too. :D

Note that SingNet is obviously not paying me anything to blog about this. Haha. :P

Anyway... I took a look again at the One.Motoring site at about 6 pm just now... There was still congestion at the checkpoint. Hahaha.

I wanted to make the gifs longer, but I got bored. :P
